@Chandler,

Hey! Great to hear you are interested in optometry.

Here are my tips...

- If you are curious about GPA and tuition requirements, call each optometry school you MIGHT consider. Ask them to send you their typical information in the mail... Once you have all this info, read through it and write down questions in a word document. Then call the schools and ask away. I would just get things wrong if I told you about GPA and tuition, things just vary way to much...

- The main thing, make sure Optometry is for you. Optometry has LOTS of room for leaders and people who want to take the profession to new heights, who want to get involved, protect what we have earned and also earn us new abilities to practice. On the other hand, this profession has VERY VERY VERY LITTLE room for those who want to just "punch the clock" get a paycheck and go home, never to help their profession grow in any way... Optometry is great and even greater if you get involved. So my advice is learn a lot about the profession now. Talk to O.D's young and old, learn about things like organized optometry, insurance and what optometrists diagnose and treat.

- Keep asking questions, we would be glad to help! Also if you are interested in helping out with OptometryStudents.com in the area of pre-optometry, we could always use the extra help, plus it looks great when you apply!

I hope I could help you, all the best,

@Matt Geller, great article matt! im now a asophomore in college and i developed an interest in optometry last year. I really enjoyed reading this article and i love the fact that you acknowledged avoiding the optometry haters. lol their are many on these internet sites being negative about this career field and its great that you are being honest about the learning process and the training. I wanted to know about the school tuition and requirements to get accepted.

whats the average gpa i should strive for?
Being that you talked about the tuition cost, are their ways i can pay for it through scholarships or grants?
Are their things i can do to prepare myself for this career now?

I have alot of questions, sorry:/ hope to speak with you soon.

Thanks for this article! A lot of the people would talk down on optometry tend not to really know that much about it nor are they willing to listen to you. Hopefully they will see in the future. This was an uplifting article.
