With over 400 hours of continuing education this year and one of optometry’s largest and most innovative exhibit halls, there are countless reasons why SECO has provided optometric physicians and students with world-class continuing education since 1924 and is remarked as The Education Destination®. As thousands descend upon Atlanta, GA for the annual conference, the Southeastern Congress of Optometry (SECO) will again deliver their “A-game” in providing an array of insurmountable CE with a large splash of fun. To guide you through this year’s SECO on March 12-16, 2014 at the Georgia World Congress Center, follow the three E’s: education, events, and exhibits.

Education:

Optometric students receive complimentary admission to the premier continuing education and symposium series within SECO’s world-renowned OD continuing education program. Students, optometrists, in addition to paraoptometric and administrative staff, are provided with 275 OD and AOP courses in the four days of this conference. Students will also be rushing to participate in the Future Professionals Forum, which is new to SECO this year. At this presentation, Dr. Chris Cooper of Memphis, TN will present to students skills on how to reap a successful career, with specific emphasis on effective communication. Representatives of state associations will also be on hand, which is a fantastic opportunity for students to network. Vistakon will sponsor coffee and desserts, while SECO will be giving away prizes.

Events:

Students always find a way to have fun. But at SECO, fun is not about “finding,” instead it’s handed to them all throughout the conference. SECO’s famous student party will surely once again be a huge hit among student attendees. It will be at Saturday night at the Omni Center at CNN Center and sponsored in part by Hoya Vision Care. The prior night, Alcon will be providing an incredible night of fun with Alcon Tailgate Trivia, which will allow students to enjoy a tailgate and test their knowledge alongside optometrists. Immediately following, students will want to make their way to “Wild and Wonderful” Friday Flashback Party, and be sure to bring a singing voice for its ‘80s theme and live music!

Exhibits:

While eyewear can be found all throughout the exhibit, SECO also always has a massive array of technological exhibitors to pave the way for all optometric physicians to stay in tune with the latest technological advances in our industry. With over 250 companies on the exhibit floor, attendees will certainly want to plan ahead to catch as much as possible.
