After
finishing your first year of optometry school or your last, many students and new doctors struggle with a very real world question: what will I do with my summer? Whether it be finding a job at a practice or waiting for the final pieces to come together for your license, many students and new grads find themselves in a bit of an optometric limbo.
Luckily, there is great opportunity to add to your options. Essilor of America, Inc. is looking for optometry students who have recently completed their first year or fourth year of optometry school for a paid internship at the Essilor US Headquarters. This internship takes place from May 29 – August 3, 2018* in Dallas, TX. Compensation is very competitive and all housing costs and accommodations will be included for chosen applicants!
Essilor interns will work within industry on a real world project for the duration of their internship. According to Dr. Janelle Routhier, the Senior Director of Customer Development, “the program started as an internship for MBA students, but we wanted to show optometry students the value of working within industry.” Examples of past projects have included competitive analysis of education and training within the optometric industry and systems for doctors to analyze data from EHRs.
Dr. Lauren Fereday, past AOSA Vice-President and trustee at MCPHS just completed her internship at Essilor this past summer. She worked on the ECP University Student OD page which will be launching this fall. “I loved working on a project that involves Essilor giving back to optometry students,” she said. “I would absolutely recommend the Essilor Internship! Interning for Essilor was the best decision I could have made for my summer following graduation.”
