OptometryStudents.com prides itself on being by the students, for the students. We aren’t students forever, though, and each year we have to bid farewell to our graduating writers and editors who have given so much of their time and talent to helping this site. Here’s what five of our graduating team members are up to now.
Marcus Noyes was an Executive Journalist who graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Currently, Dr. Noyes is doing his residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center at the Havener Eye Institute Department of Opthalmology with a focus on Cornea/Contact Lens and Ocular Disease. He says that “The biggest thing I”m learning about in residency is co-management in complicated ocular cases.” Dr. Noyes did editing and behind-the-scenes work for the site. Jessica Chan was an Executive Editor from the Illinois College of Optometry. Dr. Chan’s article about choosing rotations and externships helped readers learn how to pick their best fourth year sites. After taking some time off to travel, Dr. Chan worked in a LASIK practice and them moved to East Tennessee after falling in love with the area during her 4th year rotation, and is currently working in a multi-location practice.
Christopher Lopez was an Executive Journalist II from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr Lopez is heavily involved in anterior segment, dry eye, and contact lens legislation. Dr. Lopez and his family made a cross-country move after graduation, from Houston, Texas, to upstate New York, where Dr. Lopez is practicing full-scope eye care in a private practice. He hopes to become an optometric business owner in the future. In addition to practicing, Dr. Lopez founded OptoCon, which he describes as “a consulting company geared towards helping optometry students navigate the job search journey.”
John Raji was an Executive Journalist from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Raji wrote this article about diabetes prevalance, diabetic retinopathy, and diabetes management. Post graduation, Dr. Raji moved to back to Toronto, Ontario in Canada, where he is from originally. He says, “I enjoyed my time in Texas but it feels good to be back home.” He is working at a practice that specializes in neuro-optometric rehabilitation and specialty contact lenses. He has a bit of sage advice for optometry students. “Get plugged in. Everyone gets a similar education, your extracurriculars and your connections are what sets you apart. And always be hungry to learn.”
Bryan Williams was an Executive Journalist who graduated from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Williams got involved in organized optometry during his time in school, and wrote this article about his experiences at the annual meeting of the Texas Optometric Association. Currently, Dr. Williams is the Cornea and Contact Lens Resident at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry, and plans to move back to the Dallas area after residency. He recently attended the GLPI Contact Lens Symposium and shared this picture with us!
These new doctors have been part of our team for years, and have helped us create helpful articles, represented our team at national
meetings, and trained other team members to take their place. We will always be proud of these doctors and are proud to call them our alumni. Wishing you all the best, always, Class of 2018!
