Creativity was rampant this year as contestants from accredited schools of optometry showed off a combination of skill and humor in their video entries for ASCO’s “ENVISION” contest. Students were asked to submit “…non-traditional, and ultimately AWESOME informational videos that ASCO can use to promote the profession to prospective optometry students around the country.” As expected, our student colleagues delivered in fine style, demonstrating the lighter side of our excellent profession.
Students were asked to create an informative video 3 to 5 minutes long advocating the profession and were informed that boredom was unacceptable! First place received an award of $5,000, second place $2,500, and third place $1,000. Prizes were generously sponsored by HOYA. So, who among us created history in this competition and ultimately took home bragging rights as optometry students extraordinaire? First place was awarded to Joey Kane of the New England College of Optometry, second place was awarded to Aaron Rahn and Huda Minhas of the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico School of Optometry, and third place to Konstatin Fishelevich of SUNY School of Optometry.
